Yikes! December was such a busy month especially after the unexpected snow days in November! Instead of writing separate blogs about everything that we did in December, I’m going to put them all on this one!
We read the book A Bad Case of the Stripes for our reading comprehension unit. We loved the moral of the story and decided to twist it with a winter/Christmas theme for the door decoration contest! Ask your child to point out their face and have them explain to you the moral of the story!
We read the story Buffalo Snow which was written/illustrated by a local author and her daughter. We read the book the week after SNOWvember! Students identified character traits for Joe and Jilly, the two main characters. We also made text-to-self connections and made this art project. We colored a picture of us playing in the snow and then painted over the picture with watered-down white paint to make it appear like a white-out effect! Then we stamped it with a Buffalo cookie-cutter! It’s not often that we get to paint any more in school so we really enjoyed this!

Students filled out a 4-column chart comparing and contrasting the different traditions of Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Ramadan / Eid, and Christmas.
