Writers SHOW not TELL through their words and illustrations in their stories.
Yesterday, we practiced a few examples with our words using this anchor chart:
Then, students tried applying the skill to their own stories. I conferred with students and provided them with ideas and tricks to take their good stories and make them better! We called it, “Giving our stories a make-over!”
Today, we practiced adding details to our illustrations. I gave every student a huge piece of sketch paper and gave them some tutorials on how to make their characters look like they’re moving and how to add details to the setting. We made a bunch and had so much fun! They all begged me to put a few on the website (so funny). Tomorrow, students will take what they learned today and apply it to their own illustrations in their stories.
