I’ve NEVER had to break so many children’s hearts at once. On Friday, I had to tell 26 seven year-olds that due to safety purposes, we couldn’t risk driving to the train station to go visit Santa. It was one of the hardest things that I’ve ever had to do.
Thankfully, students went right to art after I broke the news to them. This allotted the second grade teachers to devise a plan to compensate for the field trip being canceled. We came up with super fun activities!
- Art class
- Viewing of the movie The Polar Express in our state-of-the-art auditorium in which was beautifully decorated for the violin concert
- Polar Express activities
- Christmas Read-Aloud
- Finished the movie with popcorn in the Aud… as the movie ended, we rolled up the projector and there was Santa sitting on the stage of the aud. (like magic)!! Santa brought the boys and girls candy-canes and told them, “since your buses couldn’t make it to come see me, I had my reindeer take me to you!”
- We went outside on the playground and made snow-angels.
- We came in and drank hot cocoa, ate cookies, and played Holiday BINGO with mini-marshmallows instead of BINGO chips.
We did our very best to make up for the field trip. We are trying to reschedule the trip.
Over the next week, students will learn about Holidays Around the World! We will learn about Hanukkah, Kwanza, Eid/Ramadan, and Christmas! Students will also receive a gift from me on Thursday!
